Word Up

Items needed:
Craft sticks
a black pen 

How to play:
Holding the craft sticks vertically, write the letters a, e, i, o, u, s, t, l, n, r, d, g on the top (as pictured) 

We chose these letters as they make a whole lot of words without having to write out the whole alphabet onto sticks (these are the lowest scoring Scrabble letters).

You can play one of two ways. The first is to sit with the child playing and ask them to spell out a word you give them. The other way is to write some words on some other craft sticks (horizontally) and get them to match the word they see.

You can add more letters into this game as their reading becomes easier.
